Every year the Goulburn Valley is blessed with visits from a variety of talented musicians. Last weekend was no exception when rock royalty came to the Eastbank Centre in the form of Cold Chisel singer/guitarist and solo performer Ian Moss.
Mossy, as he is affectionately known by the Australian public, played to a capacity audience. He performed his way through some of the gold from the peak Cold Chisel years as well as some songs from his solo career. "Tucker's Daughter" from his 1989 hit album "Matchbook" was a particular fan favourite. Ian also sang some songs from his new album "Ian Moss" that was released in March this year.
Mossy encouraged audience participation by prompting them to sing along with the Cold Chisel classics "Choir Girl", "Flame Trees" and "Bow River" which they did with great gusto.
His engagement with the audience both throughout the show and afterwards was refreshing. He thanked them several times for choosing to spend their Saturday night with him. Here was a man who was genuinely grateful for the support of his fans and it showed. He was down to Earth and humble.
There were no support musicians on stage. This was a raw and honest performance. It was the brilliant, distinctive sound of an Australian rock legend with just his voice, a microphone and a small selection of acoustic guitars. From a fan's point of view, his rendition of "Saturday Night" was enough to send a shiver up my arms. After the show, I jokingly commented that it must be easier to perform the song when it actually is Saturday night. To that he responded "yeah, it helps".
Ian is taking his solo acoustic tour around Australia continuing up until Saturday November 24th and then re-commencing in February 2019.
