Theatre royalty heading to Shepparton

When you think of Australia's leading man of opera and musical theatre, the name David Hobson would be at the top of the list. I was fortunate enough to speak with the charismatic tenor about his current project - a musical experience with his great friend Marina Prior called "The Two of Us".

David has known Marina for over thirty years. They first worked together in the "Pirates of Penzance" in 1984. They have remained friends ever since and are now excited to be touring with their show around Australia.

"The Two of Us" is a blend of stories and songs that have been significant for David and Marina throughout their careers. When David was younger he dabbled in some pop, rock and jazz, and he has a love of a broad range of music. Therefore choosing what songs to include in the show and what to leave out was a difficult decision.

The show has a more intimate feel than what audiences might be used to. It's a look at the lives of two stage icons who have a wonderful synergy. According to David, it's a fun and informal atmosphere. He and Marina are able to be themselves and not have to hide behind costumes and characters.

The pair are enjoying their travels together, branching out to the regional areas of Australia, taking in the sights and playing to audiences that otherwise might not have had the chance to see them in this capacity. David says the reactions have been positive and he feels very fortunate to be involved in the tour. To him, performing is an essential part of who he is. It's an adrenaline rush that he likened to surfing a wave or playing in a big football match. The friendly and relaxed approach to "The Two of Us" means no two performances are exactly the same and there's the excitement of seeing what will happen next.

Shepparton is the first stop in the Victorian part of their tour. David and Marina will be performing at the Eastbank Centre on Thursday April 26th. There are still some tickets available. It promises to be a night of fun, but be warned - David has confirmed, there will be "Dad" jokes!
